Roller Derby Surges With Grrrrrls
Apparantly, a grass-roots revival is bringing back women's Roller Derby. I suspect that this is not your mother's derby dance ala "Kansas City Bombers."
Girls today, or young women, are more athletically capable and mentally fit. If Mohammed Ali's daughter can get in the ring with the boys, I wouldn't be surprised to see co-ed Roller Derby in the near future.
From "jamming" to the unmistakeable oomph of physical contact, the current contests are mainly focused on athletic ability.
From Hawaii to Houston, the evolving amateur leagues even "own" their own team. The prevailing philosophy is "by the skaters, for the skaters." The individual teams' biggest challenge, however, is having the funds to compete nationwide. So contribute cash if you can.
At www.StopBruises.com, we can help with product samples to minimized those bumps and bruises with a supply of NoBruise! towelettes. They come in handy credit-card size packets, perfect to tuck into a waste band or sports bra. Just give us a shout.
